EFCC Confirms Arrest of 14 FUTA Students in Midnight Raid
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially acknowledged the apprehension of 14 students from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) during a midnight raid. The Benin zonal command of the anti-graft agency disclosed that these students, along with nineteen others, were detained in the early hours of Wednesday on suspicions of engaging in internet fraud.
SK Blog had previously reported an undisclosed number of FUTA students being taken into custody in Akure around 3 am by uniformed EFCC operatives. Disturbing footage obtained by TheCable depicted some students with injuries and others being transported away in a vehicle.
“They broke in, made unlawful arrests, destroyed properties, molested a female student, and inhumanly inflicted injuries on some others,” a source revealed.
The EFCC justified the operation, citing intelligence on alleged illicit activities in the state capital. According to the anti-graft agency, the sting operation was initiated based on urgent calls from concerned neighbors and parents, urging the EFCC to prevent their children from being enticed into internet-related activities by the suspects.
“Items recovered at the point of arrest include ten exotic cars, phones, laptops, and one motorbike.”
Despite the recent directive from the EFCC’s headquarters instructing operatives to refrain from conducting nighttime sting operations, the commission stated that the arrested individuals would face charges in court once investigations are completed.
