Edo Election Tribunal Relocates to Abuja Following Disruptions
The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has been relocated to Abuja after its sitting in Benin City was disrupted by thugs last week.
Tribunal secretary Muazu Bagudu announced the move in a memo circulated on social media on Friday. According to the memo, all subsequent sittings will take place at the National Judicial Institute (NJI) on Airport Road, Abuja, starting Monday, January 27, 2025.
The tribunal is currently hearing a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who are challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Governor Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.
Both the PDP and APC have accused each other of orchestrating the violence that disrupted the tribunal proceedings in Benin City.
