Dramatic Rescue as Building Collapses in Abuja

In a daring rescue operation, emergency responders successfully saved a construction worker from the wreckage of a partially collapsed building in the heart of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident unfolded on Saturday in the bustling Central Business District, adjacent to Taj Bank. According to reports from the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the collapse prompted a rapid response after construction workers struggled in vain for an hour to free their trapped colleague.

FEMA spokesperson Nkechi Isa revealed that the rescue team, comprising FEMA and FCT fire service personnel, utilized extrication equipment and the construction company’s excavator to retrieve the trapped individual. The victim, involved in casting the first floor when the catastrophe occurred, is currently undergoing treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja.

The cause of the partial collapse remains uncertain, as authorities continue their investigation into the incident. Acting Director-General of FEMA, Mohammed Sabo, emphasized the importance of strict adherence to building codes and standards during a site visit. Sabo cautioned developers against the use of substandard materials or compromising safety measures, urging them to prioritize the well-being of both construction workers and future occupants.
