‘Don’t Withdraw Supreme Court Suit’, Experts Warn PDP Governors Over Fubara Suspension
Despite a new peace deal among political factions in Rivers State, experts have warned PDP governors against withdrawing their Supreme Court suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, analysts Jide Ojo and Professor Kenneth Nweke described Tinubu’s suspension of Fubara, his deputy, and the state assembly as unconstitutional, insisting the Supreme Court must clarify whether Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution permits such presidential action.
Nweke called the suspension “an aberration,” saying no part of the constitution allows a president to remove elected democratic structures. He urged civil society groups and PDP governors not to withdraw the case so that it can enrich Nigeria’s legal and political development. Ojo agreed, warning of potential political pressure on the plaintiffs to withdraw the case in the name of peace. Both experts stressed that the case must go forward to protect constitutional democracy and prevent future executive overreach.
