“Do Not Buy Votes for Me” — NNPP’s Peter Ekwueme Tells Supporters
“Ndi Anambra South deserve to make their electoral decision without manipulation or inducement”
Barr. Peter Ekwueme, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) senatorial candidate in the upcoming Anambra South Senatorial Bye-Election, has issued a firm directive to his supporters and campaign team: do not engage in vote buying or any form of material inducement.
Speaking during a live interactive session on Omega Radio on August 14, 2025, Ekwueme emphasized that the people of Anambra South deserve to freely make their electoral choice without manipulation. He lamented the prevalence of petty cash-for-votes culture in the region, which he said has fueled poor governance, lack of accountability, and underperformance among political officeholders.
Ekwueme urged the public to report anyone found buying votes in his name to law enforcement agencies, describing such individuals as political mischief makers working for opponents.
“Winning an election is about genuinely earning the trust of the people through track record and character. Buying votes only becomes an option when one is convinced they are bankrupt in character,” Ekwueme stated.
He condemned the commodification of voters’ welfare, calling it “insensitive and insulting” to the people, and stressed the need to restore honesty and integrity to the political process—beginning at the community level.
