Diri Denies Alliance Bid with Atiku for 2027 Presidential Race

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has unequivocally rejected any suggestion of teaming up with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as his running mate in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.

The controversy arose following a statement purportedly issued by a group known as Diri Angels (DA), urging Atiku Abubakar to consider Governor Douye Diri for the vice-presidential slot in the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) ticket for 2027. The group, in their plea, projected Atiku as the frontrunner for the presidential candidacy and emphasized Diri’s candidacy as crucial to challenging incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Governor Diri, through his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, dismissed the group as fictitious and its claims as baseless and divisive. He condemned the group’s alleged motives to sow discord and assured the people of Bayelsa State of his unwavering dedication to fulfilling their electoral mandate. Diri emphasized that his political decisions are guided by principles aligned with both divine guidance and democratic values.

“This purported endorsement is nothing but a distraction orchestrated by political opportunists,” Governor Diri asserted. “I remain steadfast in my commitment to serve the people of Bayelsa State, unaffected by such misleading propositions.”

Governor Diri further cautioned against the antics of what he termed as “political buccaneers,” urging the public to remain focused on the developmental goals of his administration. He reiterated his determination to deliver tangible benefits of democracy to the people, citing the mandate renewed by Bayelsans in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
