Debt Dispute Turns Deadly: Man Kills Reverend Sister in Rivers
A man identified as Kelvin Okoro has been arrested for the gruesome killing of Reverend Sister Maureen Wecheonwu in the Aluu community, located in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. According to sources, Okoro was heavily indebted to the nun and had been under pressure to repay the money. In a calculated move, he allegedly lured her to a secluded area under the pretense of settling the debt, where he attacked and killed her.
Eyewitnesses told Punch that the Reverend Sister’s body was later discovered in a pool of blood by locals, who quickly alerted a community vigilante group. A resident, who asked not to be named, said the deceased had previously voiced her frustrations about Okoro’s refusal to repay the loan. “He pretended he wanted to talk about the debt, but took her to a lonely path and struck her multiple times with a blunt object,” the source said.
The community became suspicious when Okoro was nowhere to be found after the incident. Members of the local vigilante group, OSPAC, led by their commander Kingsley Wali, tracked him to his hideout, where he was apprehended and handed over to the police. It was also reported that he took some of the Reverend Sister’s personal belongings after the murder.
The Rivers State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and noted that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for further investigation.
