Dangote Refinery Set to Start Petrol Supply in September

Dangote Petroleum Refinery is in the final stages of test runs for petrol production, with full operations slated to begin by mid-September, according to a recent Reuters report. The update, based on a note from IIR Energy, an oil industry analyst, suggests there could be further delays.

 

IIR Energy’s note indicated that there might be additional extensions to the commencement date. Anthony Chiejina, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer for Dangote Group, has not yet responded to inquiries from TheCable regarding these potential delays.

 

Earlier in the year, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, announced that petrol production would start in June and that Nigeria would no longer need to import the product. However, this timeline was adjusted to July due to minor delays, and on July 15, the refinery pushed the start date to August.

 

Reports on August 14 suggested another postponement, but Chiejina denied these claims, affirming that the refinery remains on schedule to begin petrol production in August. Additionally, on August 13, the refinery clarified that it has not set a petrol price of N600 per litre ahead of its market release.
