Dangote Refinery Reveals Fuel Price, Alleges Nearby Company Blends and Sells Substandard Products

Dangote Refinery has disclosed its official pricing for petroleum products while raising concerns about an alleged competitor’s operations in a nearby facility. According to Dangote, an international trading company recently acquired a depot close to its refinery and has been using it to blend and distribute substandard fuel products in the Nigerian market.

Dangote Refinery, in a statement from its Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, reported that its current pricing stands at N960 per litre for maritime sales and N990 per litre for truck distribution. The company emphasized that these prices are competitive and aligned with international quality standards, aiming to support local production and maintain the high quality of petroleum products in Nigeria.

The refinery argued that the alleged competitor’s introduction of low-quality fuel products threatens the stability of Nigeria’s refining industry by undermining consumer trust and quality standards. Additionally, Dangote highlighted that protecting local industries is a common economic measure, citing how the United States and Europe impose tariffs in sectors like electric vehicles and microchips to support domestic production.

This statement comes after the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) expressed concerns about Dangote’s pricing. However, Dangote maintains that its rates are fair and necessary to uphold product standards within Nigeria’s petroleum market, emphasizing its commitment to high-quality fuel in the face of potentially substandard imports.
