Dangote Explains Reason for Diesel Price Drop

Aliko Dangote, the president of the Dangote Group, revealed why the Dangote Refinery has reduced the price of diesel to N1,000 per litre. According to Dangote, this price drop is intended to make diesel more affordable for everyday Nigerians, contributing to reduced transportation costs and ultimately lower prices for goods and services.

Speaking to the press after attending a wedding ceremony in Gombe, Dangote outlined the broader impact of high diesel prices on the Nigerian economy. He noted that expensive diesel leads to higher costs for businesses, particularly those involved in transportation and production. This, in turn, raises the prices of essential commodities for consumers.

“The price of diesel has a significant impact on the cost of living for everyone,” Dangote explained. “By lowering the cost of diesel, we can help businesses operate more efficiently, leading to increased productivity, job creation, and a general reduction in commodity prices.”

He also addressed the issue of price manipulation and profiteering within the diesel industry. Dangote said that some operators had taken advantage of their control over the market, driving prices up to unsustainable levels. By reducing the cost of diesel, the Dangote Refinery aims to bring stability to the market and eliminate these unfair practices.

“In certain states, like Borno and Bauchi states, diesel was selling for between N1,700 and N1,800 per litre,” Dangote said. “We decided that diesel should not cost more than N1,000 anywhere in Nigeria.”

Dangote’s commitment to lower diesel prices aligns with his broader vision of supporting economic growth and reducing the financial burden on Nigerian households and businesses. He expressed confidence that this price drop would benefit the economy and consumers across the country.
