Cult Clash Turns Deadly as Man Is Stoned to Death in Bayelsa

A violent cult clash in Bayelsa State turned fatal on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, as a 30-year-old man, Darlington Watson, was stoned to death by suspected rival cult members in the Agudama-Epie community of Yenagoa.

Eyewitnesses reported that Watson, a member of the Greenlander cult group, was riding in a tricycle when suspected members of the Bobous cult stopped the vehicle, dragged him out, and attacked him with sticks and stones. The brutal assault, which took place around 5:15 p.m. near a Pentecostal church in the area, left him dead before help could arrive.

Sources said the assailants fled the scene before a police patrol team arrived, while Watson’s family retrieved his body for burial.

Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson Musa Mohammed confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that investigations were underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. According to him, the divisional police officer led a patrol team to the area after receiving reports of the attack.

“The Bobous and Greenlander cult groups were clashing at Agudama-Epie. In the process, one Darlington Watson, a 30-year-old from the community and a member of the Greenlander group, was inflicted with machete cuts and stoned to death by the rival group,” Mohammed said.

He assured the public that law enforcement agencies were working to restore order and bring the perpetrators to justice.
