Cristiano Ronaldo Receives One-Match Suspension, Fine for Obscene Gesture
Al-Nassr’s star forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been handed a one-match suspension by the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Federation (SAFF). The decision was made following Ronaldo’s apparent obscene gesture at the conclusion of their 3-2 victory over Al Shabab.
The incident occurred as Ronaldo, in response to chants of Lionel Messi’s name from Al Shabab fans, cupped his ear and made a repeated pumping motion in front of his pelvic area. The disciplinary action was confirmed on Wednesday.
In addition to the suspension, the committee has imposed a fine of 10,000 Saudi riyals ($2,666) on the Portugal captain. Ronaldo is obligated to pay 10,000 riyals to the Saudi Football Federation and an additional 20,000 riyals to Al Shabab, covering the costs of the complaint filing fees.
It is important to note that the committee’s decision is deemed final and is not subject to appeal. This ruling brings attention to the need for sportsmanship and respectful behavior both on and off the field in the Saudi football scene.
