Crimes: Soludo Has Vindicated Fulanis, He Is a Future President of Nigeria – MURIC Praises Anambra Governor
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), a prominent faith-based advocacy and human rights organization, has praised Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for his candor in addressing the issue of criminality in the South East.
MURIC’s commendation follows Governor Soludo’s recent comments during a town hall meeting with Anambra indigenes in the diaspora, held at Metro Points Hotel in New Carrollton, Maryland, USA. During the session, Soludo stated that the vast majority of kidnappings and killings in Anambra and other southeastern states are carried out by criminals of Igbo origin — not Fulani, as often widely believed.
According to Soludo, *“99.99 percent of kidnappers and other criminals arrested in the state since I assumed office three years ago have been Igbos.”
In a statement released Friday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described Soludo’s declaration as courageous and groundbreaking.
“This is a landmark declaration. It is indeed an eye-opener for all those who have been following the unfortunate incidents of kidnappings and killings in the South East,” Akintola said. “We give kudos to Governor Soludo for this honest assertion. It is bold, deep, and far-reaching.”
MURIC noted that Soludo’s refusal to conform to popular but unfounded narratives — particularly the stereotyping of Fulanis as the face of violent crime in the region — reflects integrity, national maturity, and leadership worthy of the highest office in the country.
“For refusing to dance to the gallery and for hitting the nail on the head without caring whose ox is gored, Soludo has proved that he is a Nigerian-president-in-the-waiting,” the group stated.
MURIC has long held that crime should not be attributed to any one ethnic or religious group. The group emphasized that many innocent Fulanis have suffered unjust profiling and even violent attacks due to widespread misconceptions.
“Crime has no ethnicity, no religion. Criminals are found in every group. Many Southerners have been misled into believing that every act of kidnapping or killing must involve a Fulani person. Soludo’s statement corrects this harmful narrative,” the statement added.
The organization called on other political leaders, traditional rulers, and community heads in the South East to emulate Soludo’s forthrightness in addressing the region’s security challenges without resorting to scapegoating.
MURIC also urged the Igbo people to stand behind Governor Soludo, asserting that the region needs a respected national figure capable of leading Nigeria with inclusivity and courage.
“Soludo is a treasure without measure — a detribalized leader who speaks truth to his people and rejects sycophancy. He is a presidential material the Igbos must nurture to maturity,” Akintola affirmed.
In closing, MURIC appealed to Nigerians across all regions to reject prejudice, particularly anti-Fulani sentiments, and embrace unity based on fairness, reason, and humanity.
“We must allow good reasoning and objectivity to dictate our actions — not sentiment, not emotion, not perception,” the statement concluded.
