Covid-19 World Updates

According to latest figures from Reuters, there are globally almost 7million confirmed cases, with deaths running to almost 400,000.

The United States accounts for about 30% of the world figures with almost 2million confirmed cases and about 110,000 deaths.

Next is Brazil with almost 650,000 confirmed cases and about 35,000 deaths. Russia follows with about 450,000 confirmed cases, but surprisingly with a record of only about 5700 deaths.

The United Kingdom follows with about 280,000 confirmed cases and well over 40,000 reported deaths.

Latest figures in Africa show that South Africa leads the pack with about 43,000 confirmed cases and about 900 deaths. Egypt follows with about 32,000 confirmed cases and a little over 1100 deaths.

Nigeria ranks third in Africa, with about 11,000 confirmed cases and about 300 deaths.

Global cases of the novel corona virus, have recorded a surge in Brazil and India. Reports have it that fatalities in Brazil are so much on the increase, that it may soon take the place of the United Kingdom to have the second largest records of deaths in the world.

Reports also show that Latin America has the second largest outbreak with over 15% of global figures.

The number of deaths linked to the novel corona virus in just about 5months have been said to be equal to the number of people who die annually from malaria.

The first record of death from Covid19 was reported in early January in Wuhan, China. It was however, not until April before global records of death hit the 100,000 mark.

The records also show that, Saint Pierre and Miguelon, a self-govering territorial overseas collectivity of France, situated in the Northwestern Atlantic Ocean with a population of about 6000 people has just 1 confirmed case and no death.

Suffice to state that to curb this surge, we are all advised to stay safe.
