Court Bars Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Senate President Akpabio from Media Interviews Amid Ongoing Suit
The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order preventing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and all other parties involved in a pending suit from granting any media interviews. The directive was issued on Friday by Justice Binta Nyako during a hearing related to a suit filed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is seeking to stop the Senate from investigating her.
Justice Nyako emphasized a complete media blackout on the matter, instructing that no party or legal counsel should engage with the press or post content on social media concerning the case until it is resolved. The judge stated explicitly that television interviews, social media updates, and any form of public commentary on the proceedings were prohibited.
This order follows a change in judicial oversight of the case. On Thursday, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, reassigned the suit to Justice Nyako after Justice Obiora Egwuatu withdrew, citing allegations of bias leveled against him by Senate President Akpabio, the third defendant in the case.
