Counterterrorism Operation: Troops Kill ‘Several’ Terrorists, Recover Arms In Sokoto

In a significant development, troops from the 8 Division Garrison in Sokoto launched a successful counterterrorism operation, resulting in the elimination of multiple terrorists in Tukandu Village, located in the North-Western state of Sokoto.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, made the official announcement on Tuesday, commending the troops for their unwavering dedication.

The operation was meticulously planned to target a notorious group of terrorists responsible for a series of heinous and atrocious activities in the region. As a result of this well-executed mission, a considerable number of terrorists were neutralized in the fierce onslaught.

It was reported that many other terrorists managed to escape but not unscathed, as they sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.

The recovery of weaponry and equipment from the insurgents was a significant achievement. The confiscated items included three AK-47 rifles, one PKT gun, 125 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, two rocket-propelled gun bombs, and nine motorcycles.

In response to this operation, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, expressed his commendation for the troops’ efforts. He encouraged them to maintain their resolve and continue to intensify their operations against the terrorists, aiming to dismantle their networks and restrict their freedom of action.

Sokoto, like several other states in the North-West region, has been grappling with attacks from bandits and terrorists who have engaged in activities such as kidnapping for ransom, senseless violence, and disruptions of community life. The success of this operation is a step forward in the ongoing effort to secure the region and protect the lives of its residents.
