‘Count Yourself out of Nigerians Who are Suffering from Hunger If you can Afford to Buy Data’ – Pst Giwa
In a Sunday address to his congregation, Pastor Adewale Giwa, the senior pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministries, made a striking assertion that Nigerians grappling with hunger are notably absent from the world of social media. Giwa, known for his outspoken views, drew attention to the divide between online activity and the stark reality faced by many citizens in the country.
During his sermon, Pastor Giwa emphasized that those enduring hunger primarily reside in rural areas and work on farms, far removed from the digital world. He stated, “Count yourself out of Nigerians who are suffering from hunger if you can afford the sum of N5,000 to buy data every week. If you multiply N5,000 by 4, it gives you N20,000 every month. Do you know that in 5 months, you can save the sum of N100,000 to start a small business?”
Pastor Giwa encouraged individuals to venture to rural areas, farms, and local markets to witness firsthand the struggles faced by those in need. He firmly believes that social media users who regularly post pictures and videos while claiming to suffer are not being sincere with themselves. He added, “Today, our youths have misplaced priorities because they don’t think straight. They would rather stay online from morning till night instead of using their precious time and money for something tangible.”
The pastor’s comments have sparked discussions about the disconnect between online presence and real-life struggles, shedding light on the importance of addressing issues of hunger and poverty in Nigeria.
