Cobhams Asuquo becomes UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have appointed Nigerian musician, producer, songwriter and lawyer Cobhams Asuquo as it’s National Ambassador.
The announcement was made by UNICEF Nigeria Representative, Peter Hawkins.
He said the appointment has made Cobhams Asuquo UNICEF Nigeria’s first National Ambassador in the last 15years.
He further explained that as UNICEF National Ambassador, part of Cobham’s responsibilities would include to help raise awareness on concerns around children’s rights and solutions, including issues around birth registration, immunization, education and protection from violence.
Hawkins further stated that the appointment was significant, because it was made on a day set aside to celebrate the importance the Nigerian child, as well as on a day dedicated to all children in Nigeria, to give them a better place to survive, thrive and develop.
He also stated that Cobhams has been supporting UNICEF to raise awareness on children issues. With his song “We go Win (Corona)”, he had in his own way helped to raise awareness on how Nigerians can protect themselves from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cobhams Asuquo, in his response stated that “It is a huge honour to become a UNICEF Nigeria Ambassador. I am thrilled to join the list of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors around the world.”
“I am passionate about children’s rights, I am passionate about Nigeria. I look forward to contributing my quota in improving the lives of Nigerian children and young people.”
