Clash Erupts Between Soldiers and Traders in Abuja Market, Police Deploy Officers
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dispatched intelligence officers to Banex, a bustling electronics and telecommunications market in Abuja, following a violent altercation between soldiers and traders on Saturday.
A video circulating on social media platform X shows a chaotic scene where numerous civilians appear to be overpowering several soldiers in a brawl at Banex.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Defence Headquarters and the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, were unsuccessful as of the time of reporting.
A trader, who gave his name only as Abdul, informed SK Blog that the conflict erupted over the sale of a mobile phone. “Some soldiers came to complain about a phone, and during an argument with the traders, a fight ensued,” Abdul stated.
In response to the incident, FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Benett Igweh, has mobilized the FCT Intelligence Response Team to manage the situation. “The CP has deployed the Intelligence Response Team to the scene,” Adeh confirmed.
