Clash Between NLC and Touts Leaves Four Injured

A violent clash between the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) enforcement team and transport workers in Jos resulted in four labour officials sustaining serious injuries. The confrontation occurred at NTA Park Jos, reportedly sparked by members of a privately owned transport company operating from a motor park on Yakubu Gowon Way, opposite NTA Jos.

The incident unfolded as an NLC monitoring team, led by Vice Chairman Comrade Sunday Ayodele, was assessing compliance with a strike across Jos. The team decided to visit the park to address the transport company’s owners.

Comrade Ayodele recounted, “Immediately upon our arrival at the park’s gate, the touts began hurling stones at us, mistaking us for members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Unbeknownst to us, there was an ongoing dispute between the private transport company and NURTW Jos. The touts attacked our members, injuring four before we could comprehend the situation.”

Security agencies intervened to restore order, allowing the NLC enforcement team to withdraw and deescalate the conflict. The injured members were subsequently taken to a hospital where they are receiving medical care.
