Christian Pilgrimage Returns in Kaduna After 11-Year Break

Kaduna State has reinstated its Christian pilgrimage programme, ending an 11-year suspension. Fifty prospective pilgrims are set to travel under government sponsorship following the programme’s reintroduction at the 2025 orientation exercise.

The development was announced by Jimami Bako, Head of Service in the state, who praised Governor Uba Sani for restoring the initiative. She said the move reflects an administration that recognises the role of faith in the lives of citizens alongside economic and social priorities.

Ahmed Maiyaki, Commissioner for Information, described the decision as part of the government’s broader focus on inclusion and equal opportunity. He encouraged the pilgrims to use the trip to pray for peace and stability in Kaduna and across the country.

Participants welcomed the programme’s return, saying it renews confidence among Christian communities and supports interfaith balance in the state.

Kaduna last organised a Christian pilgrimage in November 2014, when 567 pilgrims were airlifted from the state airport to Israel. At the time, the then governor, Ramalan Yero, urged them to represent Nigeria responsibly during thgeir visit.
