Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ariwoola, to Retire on August 22
Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Olukayode Ariwoola will officially retire from his position on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Ariwoola has led Nigeria’s judiciary for the past three years, following the sudden resignation of his predecessor, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, due to health reasons.
A traditional valedictory court session will be held in his honor on the same day at the Supreme Court Complex, Abuja. This ceremony is expected to be attended by notable figures.
Dr. Festus Akande, Director of Information and Press for the Court, announced on Monday that the Apex Court’s 2023/2024 legal year concluded on July 19, 2024, with the court commencing its vacation on July 22, 2024.
The court is set to resume for the first term of the 2024/2025 legal year on September 23, 2024. The ceremony marking the start of the new legal year will take place on September 30, 2024.
