Chaos at UNIZIK: Students Nearly Beat Armed Robber to Death After Hostel Invasion Attempt
A suspected armed robber was beaten to a pulp by students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) and local residents after he was allegedly caught with a gun while attempting to rob a student hostel near the university.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at Teezers Junction in Ifite, Awka, close to the UNIZIK school gate. Eyewitnesses claim the man was caught trying to gain access to a lodge when students raised the alarm and quickly mobilized to confront him.
According to a video shared with media outlets, the suspect was surrounded and brutally beaten by an angry mob. One person in the video is seen wielding a cutlass while others take turns hitting the man. Amid the chaos, some students can be heard pleading for restraint. A female voice is heard saying, “It’s enough,” while urging her fellow lodge residents to shut their gate and avoid further escalation.
Another video shows the suspect lying motionless on the ground, covered in blood, barely conscious after the beating.
Sources say the students eventually handed the suspect over to security officials after the mob attack. As of now, there has been no official statement from the police regarding the condition of the suspect or any potential legal action.
