Channels TV Reporter Abducted in Rivers State; N30 Million Ransom Demanded
In a chilling incident on Thursday night, Mr. Joshua Rogers, a reporter for Channels Television in Rivers State, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen near his residence in Rumuosi, Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The abduction occurred around 9 pm as Rogers was returning home in his official Channels Television-branded vehicle. Sources indicate that the assailants, armed with guns, intercepted his car and forcibly took him captive.
According to reports, Rogers had just completed an official assignment at the Government House and was returning from an event in Andoni when he was ambushed.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers reached out to Rogers’ wife, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his safe release. Although Channels TV is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, Rogers’ cameraman has confirmed the distressing development.
In a desperate plea to his captors, Rogers has reportedly appealed for his unconditional release.
When contacted for comment, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, refrained from confirming or denying the abduction, stating only, “I will get back to you please.”
The abduction of a journalist underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by residents of Rivers State and highlights the brazenness of criminal elements operating in the region. The situation calls for swift and decisive action from law enforcement agencies to ensure Rogers’ safe return and to apprehend those responsible for this reprehensible act.
