Campaign Coordinator for Governor Aiyedatiwa Assassinated in Ondo State
Alaba Excel Abbey, a campaign coordinator for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, has been tragically assassinated. Mr. Abbey, responsible for coordinating the governor’s campaign in Ward 10, was shot dead at his home in Supare Akoko, located in the Akoko South West Local Government Area.
The unfortunate incident has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, as Mr. Abbey played a significant role in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s campaign organization. He also served as the returning officer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded party primary elections in his ward.
According to his younger brother, Samuel Abbey, Mr. Abbey was shot at the front of his residence. The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF) released a statement condemning the gruesome act and urged local security agencies, particularly the police, to ensure the safety of their members. Kayode Fasua, the spokesperson for the campaign organization, acknowledged Mr. Abbey’s active involvement in their campaign activities until his untimely death.
David Ajobiewe, the Director-General of LACO-FS in Akoko Southwest Local Government, expressed his sorrow over the assassination, describing it as a “big tragedy.” He noted that Mr. Abbey was a peaceful individual with no history of violence or disputes and called on police authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed that the state command is investigating the incident to uncover the details surrounding the assassination.
