Bwala Slams El-Rufai’s 2027 Ambition, Says Plot to Unseat Tinubu Will Collapse
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, has dismissed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a failed political strategy, describing it as an “inordinate ambition” to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Reacting on Monday via a post on X, Bwala criticised El-Rufai’s move to the opposition, warning that aligning with what he described as “sore losers” lacks ideological grounding. “We would intellectually remind you that associating with sore losers to unseat the incumbent is not an ideology, neither is it progressivism; it is simply an inordinate ambition, that is destined to fail,” he wrote.
El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, announced his resignation from the ruling party, citing its deviation from its founding principles and the leadership’s failure to address growing internal concerns. Despite previously affirming his loyalty to the APC, El-Rufai now says he will channel his energy into building a strong opposition under the SDP banner. “Without prejudice to this decision, as a member of the SDP, I will focus on engaging with and persuading other opposition leaders and parties to join us and congregate under a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in all elections and bye-elections between now and 2027 by the Grace of God,” he declared.
While Bwala acknowledged El-Rufai’s constitutional right to join another party, he made it clear that the motivations behind the former governor’s defection would face scrutiny. “Well, I have nothing against you because you exercised your constitutional right. The motive is what we would interrogate in the coming days and remind Nigerians that you are not a phenomenal that emerges like a clap of thunder out of a blue sky,” Bwala added.
