“…But Nigerian Government Just Partnered with America on Airstrikes in Sokoto” — Rufai Oseni Calls Out Tinubu’s Media Aide Over Past Peter Obi Criticism

Media personality Rufai Oseni has drawn attention to what he describes as a contradiction in the federal government’s messaging on foreign involvement in Nigeria’s security operations, following reports of collaboration with the United States on airstrikes in Sokoto State.

Oseni highlighted the issue on X, referencing a November statement by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who criticized opposition leader Peter Obi for comments interpreted as supportive of U.S. involvement in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Sharing a screenshot of Onanuga’s earlier post, Oseni wrote: “…but Nigerian government just partnered with America on Airstrikes in Sokoto.”

In his previous comment, Onanuga said: “We shall never forget and forgive Peter Obi for supporting a foreign invasion of Nigeria,” reacting to Obi’s remarks suggesting he would welcome U.S. assistance, including from former U.S. President Donald Trump, in tackling the country’s security issues.

Recent reports indicate that Nigerian authorities coordinated with U.S. counterparts on air operations targeting armed groups in parts of Sokoto State. The development has reignited public discussion over the federal government’s stance on foreign involvement in security matters and the consistency of its public messaging.
