British Airways set to sack workers and re-hire them on half pay
British Airways is planning to sack thousands of it’s workers and rehire some of them on half the pay.
The airline sent a letter to it’s staff setting out new terms with in view of the corona pandemic.
British Airways cabin crew is presently divided into 3: Long haul, Short haul and a lower paid “mixed fleet”.
The Airline is now in talks to combine everyone into a single work group at a lower pay.
Workers are reported to have received redundancy notices, which would be due by June 15.
One of the employees, was reported to have said, “on June 15, I will be made redundant from the job I love after 34 years of loyal service. Redundancy notices are to be issued to some of my colleagues”
The report further states that 31,000 lucky former employees will be offered re-employment on a 60% pay cut.
The British Airways however responded stating that their actions are channeled at protecting as many jobs as possible, stating further that they would be consulting with necessary unions and persons in preparation of a new future.
The job cut is expected to include about 1130 pilots despite its owner handing out 3.6billion pounds to shareholders in five years.
British Airways’ actions has been described as a cynical act of corporate greed and a betrayal of the workforce and Britian.
