Boko Haram insurgents executed a series of attacks in Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State. The assailants struck the village, located 17km from Damaturu, at midnight on Saturday, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of lives.
The targeted assault resulted in the death of a mobile policeman and two civilians. The district head’s palace in Kukareta, situated on the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road, became a blazing casualty during the attack.
Eyewitnesses recounted a horrifying scene as the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, ransacked homes, looting food items, and setting houses ablaze.
A witness shared the grim details, stating, “We lost three people, including a police mobile officer who succumbed to a gunshot wound during the attack.”
Major General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the state security adviser, confirmed the incident in a press statement. He acknowledged that the suspected Boko Haram terrorists not only burned down the district head of Kukareta’s palace but also targeted two patrol vehicles belonging to security personnel.
The attackers did not spare an election collation center at Kukareta, resulting in the loss of one police officer and two civilians.
Abdulsalam urged the local community to stand firm in supporting security agencies, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to maintain peace and security in the area.
