Boko Haram Executes Two Red Cross Staff, Elderly Woman in Viral Video

A disturbing video has emerged showing the execution of two Red Cross workers and an elderly woman by Boko Haram militants in Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State. The video, which has not yet been independently verified, shows armed members of the terrorist group carrying out the gruesome killings.

The leader of the militants, speaking in Hausa, claimed the act was in retaliation for the harassment of their elders and children by security forces. In the video, he stated that while some elderly women, including his sister, would be released, the Red Cross workers and other captives considered “enemies” were executed as a demonstration of the group’s strength and religious devotion.

The footage also depicts the execution, with militants shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the killings. This video surfaces amidst a wave of violent attacks in Gwoza, where Boko Haram fighters have targeted local farmers, looting crops and abducting residents.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents the region, has expressed his concerns, acknowledging the video and emphasizing the ongoing security challenges faced by the people of Gwoza. Despite recent efforts to resettle displaced residents, renewed attacks by Boko Haram continue to threaten the safety of the community.

Efforts to contact Yuxia Jiang, Communication Delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), for confirmation of the deaths, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
