Body of 42-Year-Old Nigerian Woman Found in U.S. Forest Preserve
The remains of a Nigerian woman, Olasinmibo Abosede, aged 42, have been discovered in a forest preserve in Illinois, United States, more than two weeks after she was declared missing.
Authorities confirmed that the body was found around 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, at Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve in DuPage County. The discovery was made by members of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, who immediately notified the Naperville Police Department.
According to reports, Ms Abosede, who lived near the Springbrook Golf Course, was last seen on July 30 when she left her home to take a walk. At the time, she was wearing a long-sleeved black Adidas jacket, grey sweatpants, a black headscarf, and black Crocs. Police said clothing on the body matched her last known outfit, leading investigators to believe the remains were hers.
Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said the department strongly suspects the body belongs to Ms Abosede, although final confirmation will come from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. “While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office,” he said.
Chief Arres expressed condolences to the victim’s family, adding, “We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincere condolences to the Abosede family during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone in our community who assisted with this investigation and for your care and concern.”
The case had drawn public attention since Ms Abosede’s disappearance. On July 31, just a day after she went missing, the Naperville Police Department issued a statement appealing to the public for assistance in locating her. Despite search efforts, no trace was found until her remains were discovered more than two weeks later.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of death, which is expected to be determined after a full coroner’s examination. The investigation remains ongoing.
