Bode George Backs PDP BoT’s Recognition of Ude-Okoye as National Secretary

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, has expressed support for the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) in recognizing Sunday Ude-Okoye as the National Secretary. His stance follows an ongoing leadership tussle between Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu, both of whom claim the position.

The BoT, after a meeting on Wednesday, urged the PDP’s National Working Committee to immediately swear in Ude-Okoye, citing a Court of Appeal ruling that affirmed him as the authentic National Secretary. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, George emphasized that the decision aligns with the court’s verdict. He stated that unless the Supreme Court overturns the ruling, there is no basis to challenge Ude-Okoye’s legitimacy.

George also called on Anyanwu to step aside and allow peace to reign, stressing the need for party unity as PDP continues its role as the main opposition. Despite internal crises, he maintained that the PDP remains more structured than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Expressing confidence in the party’s resilience, George likened the PDP to an Iroko tree with deep roots, asserting that while the party faces turbulence, its foundation remains strong. He dismissed concerns of a total collapse, urging party members to prioritize collective interests over personal ambitions.

He further insisted that the PDP is not a private enterprise and advised those solely driven by personal ambition to reconsider their stance or leave the party.
