“Blatant liar! Provide evidence of any passenger who was extorted,” Air Peace challenges Senator Oshiomhole
Nigerian airline Air Peace has strongly denied allegations made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, calling his claims false and demanding proof of wrongdoing. The airline issued a sharp rebuttal late Wednesday following an incident involving the former Edo State Governor at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 in Lagos.
According to Air Peace, the altercation began after Senator Oshiomhole missed his flight to Abuja and attempted to pressure airline staff for preferential treatment. The senator, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly, claimed he was denied boarding despite completing online check-in and accused Air Peace officials of reselling tickets at inflated prices to other passengers.
Air Peace firmly denied all accusations, describing Oshiomhole’s account as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. “The Senator lied blatantly when he accused Air Peace of extorting its passengers,” the airline said in its official statement, challenging him to present evidence that any passenger was extorted. The company stated that no tickets were sold after check-in closed, and that the aircraft in question departed with more than 30 empty seats, directly contradicting the senator’s claims of overbooking.
The airline also dismissed suggestions that Oshiomhole was acting on behalf of other affected passengers. “He was not fighting for anyone,” the statement said. “He came to the airport late and began to foment trouble.” According to Air Peace, the senator disrupted airport operations by jumping on a baggage conveyor belt, blocking other flights’ check-ins, and barricading terminal gates while inciting other travelers.
Calling his conduct “violent, unbecoming, unfortunate and above all, shameful,” the airline urged the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to release CCTV footage from the incident to provide an accurate public record. The statement concluded by warning that Oshiomhole’s allegations were defamatory and baseless.
