Biden Phones Tinubu, Discusses Released Binance Executive, Other Matters
President Joe Biden of the United States held a 30-minute phone call with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, addressing key matters of bilateral interest, according to Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar.
In a briefing to journalists in Abuja, Tuggar outlined that the leaders discussed ongoing partnerships between their countries, including collaboration in law enforcement. A significant topic was the recent release of Tigran Gambaryan, an executive from Binance Holdings, who had been detained in Nigeria.
“President Biden expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for Nigeria’s partnership, especially regarding the collaboration between our law enforcement agencies,” Tuggar noted.
Last week, the Nigerian government dismissed all charges against Gambaryan, who faced allegations of money laundering and currency speculation at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Following his release, Gambaryan returned to the United States.
