Bichi Turned DSS into ‘Orchard of Nepotism,’ APC Corps, Lowered Recruitment Standards, and Allowed Family Interference—Jafar Jafar

A Nigerian journalist based in the United Kingdom, Jafar Jafar, has made serious allegations against Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the former director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS). In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jafar criticized Bichi for allegedly transforming the DSS into “a graveyard of career aspirations,” “an orchard of nepotism,” and “an armed corps of 40 Blantyre Crescent,” referring to the APC headquarters at that address in Abuja.

Jafar, who is the publisher of the Daily Nigerian, accused Bichi of undermining the integrity of the DSS by lowering recruitment standards and removing rigorous screening processes. He claimed that Bichi’s actions led to the recruitment of individuals who would not have met the standards of private security firms.

He described her as an “oppressive” figure who used public funds for personal indulgences and maintained a lavish lifestyle, which reportedly included a long motorcade and security personnel.

Jafar also criticized Bichi’s son for flaunting luxury cars on social media and suggested that public funds were used to provide him with security at various events.

In light of these allegations, Jafar has called on the new DSS director-general, Adeola Ajayi, to review Bichi’s tenure and restore professionalism to the service. The new appointment follows Bichi’s resignation, as announced by President Bola Tinubu.
