Beyond Rhetoric: NLC Calls for Tangible Results from Tinubu, Other Political Leaders This Season

In a Christmas message titled ‘AT CHRISTMAS: MAY OUR HOPE BE IN CHRIST,’ the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called upon President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders to utilize the festive season as an opportunity to devise creative solutions aimed at alleviating the significant suffering and hardship currently experienced by Nigerians.

Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, emphasized that, rather than mere handouts, Nigerians anticipate tangible governmental actions yielding substantial results. Ajaero expressed, “Beggaring the people insults their sensibilities, but creating effective platforms to enable the people to unleash their robust energies for wealth creation is what the people are asking for, and this, to our minds, is not rocket science.”

The Christmas message further underscored the essence of unity among Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or communal differences. Ajaero highlighted the need for solidarity, stating, “We must do everything to love ourselves as workers and as a people. It is only in dwelling in unity that we can build the needed strength for a better nation.”

The NLC president urged leaders to prioritize transparency and good governance, asserting that effective results can only be delivered through policies that offer hope and uplift the populace. He stated, “Our leaders should seek to put a smile on our faces and pursue things that offer hope to the people, not policies that demoralize and eviscerate.”

As the festive season encourages reflection and gratitude, the NLC’s Christmas message serves as a poignant call for leaders to embrace the spirit of the season and work towards creating positive change for the Nigerian people.
