Benue Horror: Young Man Commits Double Homicide, Stabs Retired Nurse, Housemaid to Death

In a horrifying incident that happened on Sunday at approximately 4:30 pm, a retired nurse, Mrs. Esther Amali, and her housemaid, Mercy Mwuese, fell victim to a brutal stabbing by a young man who invaded their residence near the Federal Low Cost in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the assailant gained access to the compound by scaling a fence while Mrs. Amali was away. The attacker targeted the housemaid, who was in her 20s, stabbing her repeatedly. The horrifying act was witnessed by Mrs. Amali upon her return.

There are conflicting versions regarding the motive behind the attack. One account suggests that the housemaid was allegedly impregnated by a rival cultist, leading to a deadly confrontation. Another version claims a personal dispute between the housemaid and the assailant, stemming from accusations about his friend’s involvement in her pregnancy.

Reportedly, the suspected murderer had repeatedly warned the housemaid to cease associating his friend with the pregnancy, but the warnings went unheeded.

Despite neighbors rushing the victims to the hospital, Mrs. Amali succumbed to her injuries before reaching medical care. The housemaid, Mercy Mwuese, was also fatally wounded in the attack.

As the community grapples with the shock of this double homicide, the Benue State Police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, is yet to provide further details on the investigation. The remains of the victims have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, while a compassionate neighbor has taken custody of the baby left behind by the deceased housemaid.
