Benue Ambush: 8 More Police Officers Found, Death Toll Rises to 11
Eight additional bodies of police officers killed in last Friday’s ambush at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State have been recovered, bringing the total number of recovered victims to 11.
The officers, who were on a clearance operation between Tse Agbami and Agu Centre near the Ukum border, came under attack from a combined force of armed herdsmen and local militia. The joint team included police personnel and members of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards.
Reports indicate that about 16 officers may have been killed in the incident, with some still missing. The attackers also set operational vehicles ablaze and carted away motorbikes belonging to the security team.
Three bodies were initially recovered on Saturday, prompting continued search efforts. On Sunday night, more bodies were found during an operation led by Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari. Confirming the development, the Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, Justine Shaku, said the situation in the area remains tense but under control.
As of now, the Benue State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the ambush.
