Charley Boy, also known as Area Fada, has spoken about his role in paving the way for cross-dressers to express themselves in Nigeria. The entertainer, whose real name is Charles Oputa, recently shared a video of himself wearing makeup and adopting feminine mannerisms, introducing his alter ego, “Linda.”

In the post, he reflected on his journey and the influence of performers before him. Charley Boy explained that when he rose to prominence in the early 1980s, he combined music, fashion, politics, and bold self-expression, often appearing in wigs, leather outfits, and skirts, delivering a message of freedom and individuality.

He noted that Nigerians were quick to judge, but he remained unapologetic, using his persona Area Fada to promote self-expression, confidence, and authenticity. Charley Boy said today’s wave of cross-dressers and influencers owe a debt to those early trailblazers who faced societal criticism. He called on people to acknowledge the courage it took, saluting the power of embracing one’s truth.
