Bayelsa Doctor Dies After Delivering Triplets at Teaching Hospital
A Nigerian medical doctor, Dr. Ere Siana Sintei Ogbachi, has died following complications after childbirth in Bayelsa State after delivering triplets.
She gave birth at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri, in Yenagoa Local Government Area. The delivery was completed successfully, but she developed medical complications shortly afterward.
According to a statement shared by her brother, Meshack Sintei, on Facebook, she was transferred from NDUTH to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit and attended to by a team of specialists.
Despite efforts by the medical team to stabilize her condition, she died in the early hours of Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at about 2:45 a.m.
Her brother said her condition worsened in the ICU before her death was confirmed. He also noted that monitoring equipment showed a rapid decline in her oxygen levels during the final stage of care.
Dr. Ogbachi, an obstetrician-gynecologist and registrar at NDUTH, was described by her family as a medical professional who continued working in maternal care up until her delivery. She was also a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and an alumna of Niger Delta University.
She is survived by her newborn triplets and family.
