Bayelsa Deputy Governor Collapses in Office, Stabilized at FMC Yenagoa
Tension swept through Yenagoa on Thursday when Bayelsa Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo collapsed in his office and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre. The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m., triggering an immediate medical response as aides and security personnel moved him to the hospital’s emergency unit.
Witnesses said he appeared to be in serious condition on arrival, but medical staff quickly stabilized him. He is now in the Intensive Care Unit, where doctors continue to monitor his condition. Although officials have not released details about what led to the health scare, hospital sources indicated it may involve a cardiac-related issue.
A source close to the deputy governor described him as someone who keeps an intense work schedule, noting that the strain may have contributed to the emergency. Security agents have since restricted access to the hospital as senior government officials troop in to show support.
Efforts to reach his media aide, Doubara Atasi, yielded no response, but hospital insiders said the deputy governor is receiving comprehensive care and remains stable.
