Bank Official Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Customer’s N18m via ATM Fraud

A bank official in Daura, Katsina State, has been arrested for allegedly stealing N18 million from a customer’s account through an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this during a press conference. According to Aliyu, the suspect, 28-year-old Adewumi Bolaji Gabriel, serves as the Head of ATM at Access Bank’s Daura branch.

The arrest followed a complaint filed by Okojie Hubert Erayomon, the Assistant Head of Operations at the same bank branch. Investigations revealed that Gabriel had conspired with a colleague, identified as David Mesioye, a staff member of Access Bank’s Kafur branch who is now on the run, to siphon N18,164,000 from a customer’s account.

“The theft was uncovered during an internal audit,” Aliyu stated. “The suspect confessed to the crime, and law enforcement recovered N10,180,000 from his bank accounts, along with N366,900 in cash and other valuables.”

The suspect is expected to face charges in court after the investigation is completed.
