Bandits Permit Kaduna Farmers to Resume Work After Extorting N6.2 Million, Four Bags of Rice
Bandits have reportedly allowed rural farmers in Kachia Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State to resume their farming activities after extorting N6.2 million and four bags of rice from them.
According to earlier reports by City & Crime, the bandits had initially chased away farmers from Unguwar Jibo and Nasarawa-Azzara communities on May 21, 2024, demanding a ransom of N100,000 per farmer before they would be permitted to return to their fields.
Despite the farmers’ initial efforts to raise N725,000, the bandits deemed the amount insufficient and demanded a larger sum. One farmer, speaking to our reporter via telephone, detailed their struggle: “Last week we were able to raise N725,000 for the bandits, which they rejected and insisted that we must raise something bigger. We started struggling since last week before we were able to raise N6.2 million and four bags of rice.”
The bandits finally accepted the extorted sum and rice, collected near the neighboring Katari village, and subsequently allowed the farmers to continue cultivating their lands.
As of now, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, has yet to comment on the incident.
