“Bandits Fed Their Dogs with Flesh of Our Driver” – Sokoto Cleric Pleads for Help After Relatives’ Abduction
In a heart-wrenching plea, renowned Sokoto cleric, Sheikh Bashar Danfili, has called on the public for urgent financial support after six of his relatives were kidnapped by bandits. The victims, including a man, his mother, stepmother, two wives, and sister, were abducted while traveling to a village in the state.
In a video posted on social media, Sheikh Danfili revealed the grim details of the attack, stating that the bandits killed their driver and fed his remains to their dogs. The cleric refrained from naming the victims but shared that they remain in captivity.
“The bandits have demanded a huge ransom running into millions of Naira, which we are unable to raise,” Danfili said. “I am just a scholar with nothing but the books behind me. We have been given a deadline, after which the bandits have threatened to kill all the hostages.”
The cleric expressed deep concern over the safety of his relatives, citing a recent incident where a traditional ruler in Sokoto was executed by his abductors. With the deadline fast approaching, Sheikh Danfili is appealing for donations to secure the release of his loved ones.
The ongoing insecurity in northern Nigeria has seen a surge in kidnappings, with bandits frequently targeting travelers and communities for ransom. Sheikh Danfili’s plea highlights the growing desperation faced by families trapped in such crises.
