Bandits Attack General Hospital, Shoot Doctor, Abduct Five Others
A group of terrorists, locally referred to as bandits, launched a violent attack on the Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State on the night of January 14, 2025. During the assault, Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, a medical doctor on duty, was shot, and at least five individuals were abducted from the facility. The identity of the victims has not yet been confirmed, and there has been no update on Dr. Dandashire’s condition.
A local source, known as Bakatsine, shared the news on his social media platform, posting a picture of the wounded doctor and calling for improved security measures in the state’s healthcare facilities. The source noted that the attack was part of a troubling trend, highlighting that bandits have previously targeted hospitals, including the Kurfi General Hospital and Mai Tsani Hospital in Dutsin-ma Local Government Area, within the last three months.
Dr. Dandashire, a native of Kankara, is recognized as the best graduating medical student of 2019 from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. Despite the severity of the attack, authorities have not confirmed whether he survived the shooting.
Efforts to contact the Katsina State Police Command Spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, for further information were unsuccessful, as repeated calls went unanswered.
