Badaru Clears Air on Reason for Resignation
Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has dismissed an online report alleging he stepped down as defence minister because he could not bear to watch the US and the Tinubu administration bomb people described as his “brothers” in the forest. He condemned the claim as malicious fiction crafted to smear his name and suggest a rift with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Badaru said the story did not originate from him or anyone authorised to speak for him. He described it as a deliberate attempt to sow discord, insisting that those circulating it aimed to damage his reputation and create unnecessary tension.
He explained that the genuine reasons for his resignation had already been formally communicated to the president and shared publicly through both traditional and social media. He stressed that any alternative narrative was fabricated by individuals bent on causing mischief.
Badaru reaffirmed his loyalty to the president, the APC and the administration’s national development agenda. He assured Nigerians that he remains committed to peace, security and stability, and pledged continued support for the party as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
