Awka Residents Prepare Candlelight Procession in Tribute to Late Singer Mohbad

In a growing wave of nationwide protests, residents of Awka are set to join the chorus of voices demanding justice for the late Lagos-based singer, Mohbad, whose untimely demise has sparked controversy and calls for accountability.

The late Mohbad, a talented artist signed to the Marlian record label, owned by Naira Marley, passed away tragically two weeks ago, leaving fans and the music industry in shock. Allegations surrounding his death have raised suspicions about Naira Marley’s involvement, leading to a public outcry.

In response to mounting concerns, Mohbad’s body, initially laid to rest, has been exhumed for a thorough autopsy examination. Nigerians across various cities and even abroad have held memorial processions to honor the fallen artist.

Entertainment personalities in Awka have now taken up the torch to organize a candlelight procession in memory of Mohbad, while also demanding justice for his mysterious passing. The procession is scheduled to take place this Sunday at 10 am in Awka’s Ekwueme square.

Though the organizers remain unidentified, sources suggest that the event aims to draw government attention to the need for transparency and accountability in the investigation.

However, the planned procession has stirred a debate among the local populace. Ude Uzochukwu, a native of the state, questioned the necessity of such an event, stating, “Be honest. Just be honest, if Mohbad had died through a road accident or chronic illness would you have planned a candlelight procession in Awka? When MC Loph died, did you hold a candlelight event for him in Owerri? When Muna Obiekwe passed away, was there a candlelight procession in Awka? It’s time we stop this madness and social bandwagon. This rubbish must stop and at once. Everything is not activism. Can you give the public one reason for this proposed candlelight event in Awka? Just one tangible reason.”

As Awka prepares to host its tribute to the late Mohbad, the debate continues over the motives behind such demonstrations and their role in seeking justice for the departed artist.
