Authorities Apprehend Lorry Driver with £6.8 Million Worth of Cocaine Concealed in Trailer Doors

In a recent breakthrough, law enforcement in the United Kingdom successfully apprehended a Lithuanian lorry driver, Edgaras Slusnys, who was found in possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of £6.8 million. This significant drug bust is a result of an ongoing investigation conducted by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Slusnys, a 37-year-old individual residing in Northern Ireland, was taken into custody by NCA officers following the interception of his lorry on September 23 in Liverpool. The truck, registered under a Northern Ireland-based haulage company, was subjected to a thorough search, carried out with the collaboration of Merseyside Police and Border Force officials.

During the search, law enforcement officers uncovered a staggering 136 kilograms of cocaine meticulously concealed within a sophisticated hiding compartment located in the rear doors of the lorry’s trailer. The discovered narcotics, had they made it to the streets, would have posed a grave threat to public safety and had a potential street value of £6.8 million.

Edgaras Slusnys has been charged with possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. He made his initial court appearance at Liverpool Magistrates Court on September 25 and has since been remanded in custody. His case is set to be transferred to Liverpool Crown Court for further proceedings, with the hearing scheduled for October 23.

Commenting on this significant operation, NCA Branch Commander David Cunningham remarked, “This seizure has dealt a significant blow to an organized crime gang, and removed a substantial quantity of dangerous drugs from the streets. The investigation continues to identify and bring to justice all those involved.”

The apprehension of Slusnys and the confiscation of this large quantity of cocaine serve as a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies in combatting drug trafficking and organized crime in the United Kingdom. The NCA remains dedicated to its mission of safeguarding communities and upholding the rule of law.
