“Atiku Wanted Me to Be His Spokesperson, I Said No” – Reno Omokri
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has revealed that he rejected an offer from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to serve as his spokesperson. Omokri, who previously worked under former President Goodluck Jonathan, said he declined because he prefers working with a sitting president rather than a presidential candidate.
“Atiku wanted me to be his spokesperson. I said no, I’m not going to be a spokesperson for a president and then be a spokesperson for a presidential candidate,” Omokri said in an interview shared on X.
He added that although he declined the role, he was instrumental in building Atiku’s media team, including the recruitment of Segun Showunmi. “I hired his media team, I hired Segun Showunmi; I interviewed him and set his salary,” he said.
Omokri, who has recently expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and has been critical of opposition figures like Labour Party’s Peter Obi, is reportedly among those being considered for ambassadorial appointments. His name is said to be on the list of nominees slated for Senate screening.
