ASUU Officially Joins Nationwide Indefinite Strike Alongside NLC, TUC
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has aligned itself with the nationwide indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
On Monday, ASUU issued a circular to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, signed by Emmanuel Osodeke, the National President of the Union. The circular directed all ASUU members to actively participate in the strike, commencing from midnight.
“As an affiliate of NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action of NLC to protect the interests of Nigerian workers and the leadership of the union. Zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons should immediately mobilize our members to participate in the action,” stated the circular.
The decision comes in response to the reported assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero, allegedly perpetrated by the Nigerian police and the Imo State government. The NLC and TUC had previously communicated to their affiliates, instructing them to initiate the planned nationwide strike, set to begin at midnight on Monday. The collective action aims to address concerns surrounding the assault and stand up for the rights and well-being of Nigerian workers.
